ACTIVE WEATHER: Still on track to see some shower and thunderstorm chances from now through at least Wednesday across the state. There will be some breaks of dry weather in between so it won’t be an all day rain by any means. Temperatures will range in the 80s to lower 90s with readings slowly tailing off into the lower and middle 80s by the middle of the week. Rainfall could range between a half inch and 1 inch with isolated heavier totals in some areas. Flash Flooding doesn’t look likely at this time.
HEAT BUILDING: A ridge will begin to develop over the Plains this next weekend which will bring summer heat to that area. We’ll be on the east side with a northerly flow but temperatures are looking to warm well into the 80s, perhaps a few low 90s in the western counties of the state closer to the ridge. The GFS on this run moves the ridge almost on top of the state Tuesday of next week and then into the Middle Mississippi River Valley later that week. This is different from the run of yesterday which showed the ridge retrograding westward and keeping us in a northwesterly flow (which the GFS does show later on in the period), so confidence is quite low heading into the extended period at this time.
