MORE SNOW ON THE WAY: It will be bright and sunny for Super Bowl Sunday across the state but it will be quite chilly. Highs today will be in the upper single digits north and northeast through the teens and lower 20s farther to the west and southwest. Clear skies will drop readings back below zero in the eastern half of the state while the western half will see single digits above zero. Monday will be partly to mostly sunny with readings in the teens east to near 30 out west. The next storm moves into the area late Monday night through the day on Tuesday. This latest run shows that the heaviest snow band is expected to be near the US 36 corridor across northern Missouri into Central Illinois with the heaviest snows in Iowa falling south of an Omaha to Des Moines to Dubuque line with lighter amounts north of there. It’s still a bit too early at this time to give an accurate estimate on snowfall amounts but accumulations could be similar to the storm we had Friday night into Saturday across the southern counties but again that’s just a guess at this point. We’ll have a better grasp later today and perhaps will have a snowfall accumulation map later tonight or first thing Monday morning.

COLD BLAST AGAIN: As the storm pulls out on Wednesday, much colder air moves back into the region once more. Readings will likely tumble below zero by Thursday morning, perhaps even into the double digits below zero. Highs on Thursday will reach the single digits and lower teens, which is warmer than what was seen on the model yesterday. Readings will stay below seasonal levels Friday and into Saturday ahead of the next storm that looks to move in late Saturday into next Sunday with even more snow for mainly the southern counties of the state.

FEBRUARY ROLLS ON: The rest of the month looks to be somewhat active with some warmer spells and colder spells mixed in with some storm systems that could bring some snow and perhaps even some rain or wintry mix across the area. It’s still too early to determine any sort of trends at this time but we’ll continue to watch.
