The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has upgraded the Wind Advisory to a HIGH WIND WARNING, which goes into effect at Midnight tonight through Midnight Sunday night for the following counties, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Benton, Linn, Jones, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar, Muscatine, Keokuk, Washington, Louisa, Jefferson, Henry and Van Buren.
TIMING…WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO INCREASE LATER TONIGHT AND REMAIN VERY STRONG THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE DURING THE DAY SUNDAY.
WINDS…NORTHWEST WINDS SUSTAINED FROM 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS OF 50 TO 60 MPH ARE EXPECTED.
IMPACTS…THE PRIMARY IMPACT WILL BE TO TRAVEL OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND…ESPECIALLY FOR HIGHER PROFILE VEHICLES. LOOSE OUTDOOR OBJECTS MAY ALSO BE BLOWN AROUND.

A HIGH WIND WARNING MEANS THAT SUSTAINED WIND SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 40 MPH OR GUSTS OF 58 MPH OR MORE WILL OCCUR. THIS CAN LEAD TO PROPERTY DAMAGE AND WILL MAKE DRIVING VERY HAZARDOUS…ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES ON EAST-WEST ROADS.
UPDATE: The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a HIGH WIND WARNING until 6pm Sunday evening for Calhoun, Cerro Gordo, Emmet, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Sac, Winnebago, Worth, Adair, Adams, Appanoose, Audubon, Black Hawk, Boone, Bremer, Butler, Carroll, Cass, Clarke, Crawford, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Franklin, Greene, Grundy, Guthrie, Hamilton, Hardin, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Polk, Poweshiek, Ringgold, Story, Tama, Taylor, Union, Wapello, Warren, Wayne, Webster and Wright counties. The National Weather Service in LaCrosse has also issued a HIGH WIND WARNING until Midnight Monday morning for Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Floyd and Mitchell counties.
