All of Iowa, Forecast

Dos días perfectos (Two Perfect Days)

UPWARD BOUND: Still on the way up with the temperatures. We will see sunny skies today and tomorrow with readings in the 60s and 70s today and 80s on Friday. There may be a hint of smoke in the air due to the amount of wildfires ongoing in Canada as the flow has been out of the northwest of late. Our next system late Friday night into Saturday will also be coming from the northwest bringing us a scattered chance of showers and a few thunderstorms at that time.

RAIN INCREASES: The frontal system Saturday night into Sunday will slowly stall over our southern counties or perhaps into Northern Missouri taking the precipitation chances south of Interstate 80 for the most part. The rest of the state should see dry conditions on Sunday with perhaps some sunshine around but likely more clouds than not. Highs on Sunday will be a bit cooler with middle 60s through the lower and middle 70s. The frontal system will lift back to the north as a warm front Sunday night into Monday overspreading the state with a chance of showers and storms once again lasting through Tuesday and even into Wednesday as well with another system coming in from the west.

LOOKING BEYOND: Looking into the end of next week and beyond, rain activity is shown to last through the end of next week with the second system mentioned earlier slowly moving through the region. It doesn’t look to bring heavy rain amounts but it is something that will need to be monitored over the coming days. The GFS wants to bring a short break between systems next Saturday (14th) before another system moves in later that day into Sunday (another wet weekend perhaps?). A slightly drier forecast is seen further into May with at least some breaks between systems but the active weather pattern looking to remain in place at least as of this run. Still am not seeing anything extreme with regards to temperatures so no “heat waves” seen as yet.
