Iowa Weather Report November 12th 2014: Cold Settles In

REMAINS COLD: No real change in our thinking over the rest of the week and into the weekend with the cold air remaining intact across the state. Highs will be struggling this week in the upper 20s and lower to middle 30s through the weekend and perhaps even into next week as well. There could be some flurry activity late tonight into the morning hours on Thursday in the far northern and northeastern counties of the state but it won’t amount to a lot at this point. The next system moves in Saturday night into the morning hours on Sunday with some light snow. It’s too early to tell how much may fall with this system but it looks to be light and shouldn’t cause much travel problems. We’ll watch for any changes in the coming days to see if this changes.

KEEPS ON COMING: The pattern doesn’t look to change a whole lot as we move into the extended period. The GFS shows some moderation in temperatures as we move toward Thanksgiving but a storm system a day or two before the holiday may bring the arctic air back in, just in time for the holiday. We did see this on the model run yesterday and we’ll keep watching for any continued trends with this as this would come through during the busiest travel period of the year.
