The Storm Prediction Center has a slight risk of severe weather for the entire state today and tonight. The main threats will be from damaging winds, some large hail and a few tornadoes. Storms will develop across southern Nebraska and northern Kansas during the early to mid-afternoon hours and quickly move northeastward. These storms for the first couple of hours would have an enhanced tornado threat attached with them before the storms form into a linear MCS that will sweep across the state during the evening and overnight hours. This will be when the main threat will be from damaging winds.
Along with the threat of severe weather will come heavy rain. Some of the moisture from former Hurricane Norbert has been en-trained into this system, thus a lot of the storms will bring heavy rain along with the possible severe weather. This may cause some localized flash flooding especially in areas that have received heavy rain amounts this morning and last evening.
The storms should be moving east out of the state by the morning hours leaving only a few showers possible for most of the day on Wednesday. It will be quite breezy as well as the cold front will be moving through the state during the morning hours as well. Temperatures will remain steady or slowly fall through the afternoon as the cold air rushes in.
Be sure to have a source of weather information handy throughout the day, especially in the afternoon through the evening hours when the threat will be at its highest.
