OMAHA, NE – The National Weather Service in Omaha has published their preliminary findings for the tornadoes in their county warning area of responsibility, which is primarily eastern Nebraska and portions of west central and southeastern Iowa.
One tornado was reported in their CWA, which was an EF2. The tornado started producing damage in Thurston County (NE) approximately 3 miles southwest of Macy. The tornado lost some intensity as it tracked northeast from the edge of Macy across highway 75 and headed toward the Missouri river. It appears that the tornado crossed the river and then it continued to produce damage in northwest Monona county, northwest of Whiting. Damage reportedly extended at least one mile into Woodbury county, west of Sloan. Further details will be available soon after additional National Weather Service coordination with emergency management.
The damage in Macy was the worst; varying in width from 100 to 250 yards wide. 6 homes were considered to have received heavy damage or destory and can not be occupied. 12 homes and 1 business received at least some damage. Numerous vehicles were damaged. 2 injuries were reported with this event. Elsewhere, damage was pretty minimal, with many trees and a few farmsteads damaged.
Further information will be collected throughout the rest of the week.
