MORE ACTIVE: The weather is going to change with a threat of some showers and thunderstorms returning late tonight in NW Iowa but more likely on Sunday across the state. Temperatures this weekend will be more typical of July with highs in the mid to upper 80s with a few lower 90s possible in western Iowa. The chances of showers and storms look to continue through the middle of next week but there will be some dry periods with some possible peaks of sunshine. Some decent amounts of rain are possible, but given the dry pattern we’ve had in the last week, flash flooding looks very unlikely across the state unless we were to get some continued training of thunderstorms over the same spot. Severe weather is possible but is looking less likely across the area. We’ll continue to monitor for any changes.

WARMER WEATHER: A ridge tries to build in from the west by next weekend across the area which would bring temperatures into the 90s for most of the state, but the GFS then shows the ridge retrograding back to the west and the main jet stream begins to sag back to the south in the extended period. This would bring the chances of showers and storms back at that time with quick moving storm systems and near seasonal levels regarding temperatures. We’ll continue to watch that in coming days and weeks as well for any possible changes.
