NEW YEARS “EVE”N COLDER: Temperatures are taking the plunge with many areas seeing minus signs in front of their temperature readings over the next few mornings. Gusty winds from the northwest will usher the bitter air into the state. Tuesday morning we’ll see readings between single digits both above and below zero, with some areas in the north seeing teens below zero. The air will be dry and sunny allowing temps to warm substantially into the teens to around 20, but it’s still going to be quite frosty for the new year.

WHERE’S THE SNOW?: It won’t be around us anytime soon, I’m afraid. The latest storm moving just to our south may skim the far southern tier of counties with some light snow showers but other than that, the rest of this week and into the following weekend look dry and even beyond that time frame the next best chance of seeing any snow could be in about 10 days to two weeks time. This could change with a system beforehand, but it’s looking rather dry and cold for a while. Several more cold plunges are possible as well leaving us below average for at least the first two weeks of the year.
