MORE WIND: It will continue to be windy today, but not with the ferocity of Sunday, when winds gusted close to 60mph. Saylorville Lake had a wind gust to 72mph yesterday. Winds today will be in the 20-30mph range with gusts approaching 40. Wind chills will be a factor especially in the morning when they could be running around zero. Highs today will struggle into the lower to mid 20s.

WARMING UP: As has been the case over the last few weeks, these cold snaps don’t last too long. By midweek, temperatures will already climb back above the seasonal average and by the end of the week, we’ll see highs back into the 40s to around 50°, not very January like in my opinion.

ARCTIC BLASTS: Of course, the warmer than normal temperatures cannot last and looking further into the month of January, some very significant blasts of cold air from the Arctic are possible along with some accumulating snow. Any arctic cold blast we may get, if there is no snow on the ground will likely be only a few degrees below average instead of seeing Highs in the single digits and lows well below zero. Any snow cover by this point will change things in future runs.
