After a 1-3 inch snowfall yesterday into this morning, the state will be in store for several storm systems that may bring more snow along with some freezing rain and rain to the state over the next week.
The next storm will move into the state late on Wednesday night from the west. Some freezing drizzle will be possible especially in the northern portions of the state, the south will likely remain dry. On Thursday, as more moisture moves in, some freezing drizzle or rain will be possible in the north with some plain rain in the south as temperatures will be above freezing in those locations. The precip will change over to all snow by Thursday night with accumulations possibly being between 2 to as much as 5 inches across the state. The higher totals are likely to be in the southern and western parts of the state, with lighter totals to the NE.
Following that storm will be an Alberta clipper type system racing southeastward by Sunday into Monday. This will bring a swath of 1-3 inches across the state by Monday. This will also bring down some arctic chill once more, with temperatures by next week dropping into the teens to around 20 for highs and lows in the single digits above and below zero. This storm will also bring a lot of wind, which will lead to blowing and drifting snow. It’s too far out yet to know whether or not the storm later this weekend will be similiar to the blizzard type storm the state had last week, but it is certainly possible.
NOTE: It’s Groundhog Day, today and Phil saw his shadow. At least the one in PA did. Any groundhog in Iowa would not have, so that means Spring is here!
