The western part of the state this afternoon is seeing temperatures in the 30s and 40s while the eastern side is teens and lower 20s. For example at 1pm along US Hwy 30, from east to west Clinton was at 19, Cedar Rapids 15, Marshalltown 15, Ames 21, Boone 27, Carroll 39, Denison 37. The drastic temperature differences are along a warm front that is forecast to move eastward later today and bring the warmth to the entire state this weekend. A storm system will then approach from the west and bring mainly rain by Saturday night into Sunday. A little bit of ice is possible Saturday night in the north. To add to the contrast the coldest temperature at 1pm in Iowa was 10 at Charles City in NC Iowa, while Shenandoah in SW Iowa had a reading of 43.
