The Storm Prediction Center has issued two watches, one severe thunderstorm and one tornado watch effective until 2am. The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is for the following counties, Harrison, Monona, Cherokee, Plymouth and Woodbury. The Tornado Watch is in effect for Clay, Dickinson, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola and Sioux counties. Thunderstorms have fired along the cold front over the Dakotas into eastern and central Nebraska. The main threat will be from tornadoes over NW Iowa, with damaging straight line winds being the main threat in the severe thunderstorm watch and elsewhere as the storms quickly move to the north and east. More watches will be possible later this evening and overnight.
