TORNADO NUMBER 1… A NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE STORM DAMAGE SURVEY TEAM HAS DETERMINED THAT A TORNADO OCCURRED WEDNESDAY MAY 25 AND PRODUCED A DAMAGE PATH ACROSS A PORTION OF DES MOINES COUNTY IN SOUTHEAST IOWA.
A TRACK OF EF1 DAMAGE EXTENDED FROM 3.3 MILES EAST NORTHEAST OF AUGUSTA TO 1.7 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF BEAVERDALE. THE PATH LENGTH WAS 4.8 MILES LONG AND THE MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH WAS 100 YARDS WIDE. THIS DAMAGE OCCURRED ROUGHLY BETWEEN 445 PM AND 500 PM CDT WEDNESDAY MAY 25.
THE DAMAGE INCLUDED SNAPPED TREES… BROKEN LARGE TREE LIMBS… TWO BROKEN POWER POLES… A DESTROYED SHED… AND TWO OVER-TURNED RAILROAD BOX CARS. AUGUSTA IS LOCATED ABOUT 11.4 MILES WEST SOUTHWEST OF BURLINGTON. THE EF1 DAMAGE INDICATED WIND SPEEDS WERE APPROXIMATELY 110 MPH.

A TRACK OF EF1 DAMAGE EXTENDED FROM 2.5 MILES SOUTH OF DODGEVILLE TO 1 MILE NORTH OF DODGEVILLE. THE PATH LENGTH WAS 3.6 MILES LONG AND THE MAXIMUM PATH WIDTH WAS 50 YARDS WIDE. THIS DAMAGE OCCURRED ROUGHLY BETWEEN 500 PM AND 515 PM CDT WEDNESDAY MAY 25.
THE DAMAGE INCLUDED SOME SNAPPED TREES AND THE DESTRUCTION OF A SMALL BARN AND OUTBUILDING. DODGEVILLE IS LOCATED ABOUT 9.5 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF BURLINGTON. THE EF1 DAMAGE INDICATED WIND SPEEDS WERE APPROXIMATELY 105 MPH.
