SEVERE WEATHER: There is a slight risk of severe weather for today and tonight for the western sections of the state, mainly west of Interstate 35. The main threat will be from large hail. Some damaging wind is possible as well. The main window of severe weather will be from mid-afternoon to around midnight. The main event for the entire state takes place on Thursday with a slight risk of severe weather covering nearly the entire state. The main risks will be from large hail and damaging winds. There is a small chance of a tornado as well, but it’s very slight at this point, however the best chances of severe weather on Thursday will likely remain south of the state in Missouri, which may cut off any thunderstorm development across Iowa.

SLOW STORM: The storm will stick around for the weekend with several chances of showers and isolated thunderstorms. Not everyone will see rain every day, nor will it be an all day rain. Amounts from this system by the time it departs late on Sunday will likely be in the 1.5-2 inch range. Flooding won’t be a concern except on the few rivers that remain high from the flooding earlier this month.

LOOKING FORWARD: Out at two weeks is another probable storm that could bring another chance of severe weather the week before Memorial Day. This may also be the next time we see temperatures at levels we had on Tuesday, but the next run may change all that, we’ll just have to see.

RECORDS: Look at the earlier post for record highs that occurred on Tuesday across the state.
