SUMMER SUNDAY: Temperatures yesterday went way beyond forecast, with readings pushing over the 80 degree mark across a large portion of southern Iowa. Cedar Rapids, Burlington, Des Moines, Lamoni and Ottumwa all broke or tied records for the date. Severe Weather also made an appearance with large hail being the main threat with golf ball to near baseball sized hail being reported.
THURSDAY TROUBLE: The next system moves in on Thursday with another chance of showers and thunderstorms at that time. It’s too early to determine if there will be severe weather or not, but precipitation amounts should be in the half inch range with isolated heavier totals.
FLOODING: River flooding continues across the Upper Des Moines River Valley, the Big Sioux River and the Mississippi Rivers. Flooding is expected to continue for at least a week or more on the Big Sioux and West Des Moines Rivers and possibly another month on the Mississippi. Any heavy rain will prolong flooding concerns on these and all other rivers that remain high at this time.
