TODAY: Light Precipitation will develop over the area today, most of it will be in the form of rain with possible mix over the far northern counties. Amounts will be a quarter inch or less with the heaviest amounts further to the east. As the storm departs enough cold air will begin wrapping around the system that some snow showers are possible with little accumulations likely. There is a chance of some snow showers or flurries through Saturday morning before skies will begin to clear.

NEXT STORM: The next system will be much larger and could bring significant amounts of precipitation to the state. The precipitation should move into the western counties of the state late Monday night or early Tuesday morning with the entire state seeing some falling precipitation by the early afternoon hours. It will be cold enough on Tuesday that areas north of Interstate 80 may see a mix of rain and snow through the afternoon hours before it changes to all rain. To the south it will begin as rain and stay that way throughout.

As the low moves across the state, cold air will wrap into NW Iowa during the early morning hours where the precipitation will change to some snow with possible accumulations. The central and eastern counties may possibly get under the dry slot shutting off most of the heaviest precipitation through the morning hours. By early afternoon, the low is leaving the state to the east and precipitation will slow switch to snow, however the heaviest accumulations will likely stay north of US Hwy 20. It’s too early to determine how much snow will fall from this storm. Snow will taper off through Wednesday into Wednesday night with the system moving off by early Thursday morning.

STILL THERE: The mid-March storm, we’ve been talking about two weeks into the future is still on this run as well although in a weaker state and with cooler conditions involved. Still too early to determine whether a storm at mid-month will occur, we’ll keep looking at it in future runs.
