The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a Winter Storm Warning effective at 4pm this afternoon until 6am Friday morning for Van Buren, Des Moines and Lee Counties in SE Iowa. In these areas, snowfall amounts of 5-7″ will be possible with heavier totals in isolated locations.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory to the north of the warning. This includes all the counties south of a Clinton to Iowa City to Des Moines to Nebraska City NE line. Areas here will get between 3-5″ of snow with the heavier totals further to the south. Some lighter amounts are possible in the non-advisory areas with up to an inch or two possible as far north as US Hwy 20.
