As was evidenced in the last post, freezing rain, sleet and snow was going to be possible beginning late Saturday night through the day Sunday across the northern counties of the state. The National Weather Service has now issued a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday evening through Sunday evening for the northern two tiers of counties of Iowa. This will be mainly for freezing rain, with ice accumulations up to a quarter inch (isolated heavier amounts) and snowfall accumulations of 3-6″ as the colder air moves in. More watches, warnings and advisories are likely to be issued in the next 24 hours.
