Very cold temperatures this morning across the western counties of the state. Skies there were clear and readings nose dived into the double digits below zero, while the eastern counties were saved from a similiar fate by clouds and a few snow showers. Sheldon fell to -16° this morning with Spencer right behind at -14°. The snow that fell across the state last night was light and only led to a half inch or less across the area.

A large snow storm will move just to the south of the state tonight into Thursday morning. Accumulations across Iowa will remain very light with only the extreme southern counties of the state seeing nothing more than an inch, with areas north of Interstate 80 possibly seeing just a few flurries. Friday morning will be another bitter cold morning for the entire state with clear skies and light winds. Temperatures are likely to be well below zero with some locations approaching -20° across the northern counties. Another batch of snow will make a move into the state late on Friday with accumulations under an inch once more. Readings will remain below normal through this upcoming weekend and into early next week as highs climb back to near 20° and lows hover in the single digits above and below zero.
