Difference of Models on Weekend Storm

12z NAM Model Run on Snowfall next 3 1/2 Days

12z GFS Model Run on Snowfall next 5 days

Here are differing models on how much snow will fall across the state this weekend. Although the GFS model run goes an extra 36 hours, there is expected to be little snow accumulating between Monday evening and Wednesday morning (the difference between the NAM and the GFS) The NAM model (first image) shows that little if any snow is expected across the eastern sections of the state, while the areas around the Loess Hill and the Missouri River Valley could expect amounts approaching 10″, with a sharp cutoff around the I-35 corridor. The GFS model run shows a more leveled out approach with gradually reduced accumulations as you go east, with the heaviest totals still confined to the western sections of the state near the Loess Hills and MO River. We believe the amounts may be a bit high but where the heaviest snow will fall looks to be nailed down at this time (although that could still change). Expect winter storm watches to possibly be issued as early as this evening or overnight for this storm that is expected through the state Saturday night through early on Monday.
