As the last few minutes of 2010 tick away, winter cold is rushing back into the state with a vengence. Temperatures have dropped not only below the freezing mark across the entire state, but the NW sections have dropped below ZERO. Along with the cold temperatures, winds are gusting well over 30mph in some locations. This is creating wind chills that are dangerously cold. Many places in the NW half of the state have wind chills below -10°. with some near or below -20°. Wind chills will continue to stay at or around -20° in the areas that are under the Wind Chill Advisory that was issued earlier this evening, whereas other areas will see wind chills down between 0 and -15° by morning.
From the Iowa Weather Blog, we wish you a Happy New Year in 2011!!!
