The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch effective either late Thursday afternoon or evening or early Friday morning through Friday evening for the counties colored in on the map above.
These will be the areas that may see precipitation on Thursday and Friday in the form of some freezing rain, sleet and snow. Accumulations of ice should be around a tenth of an inch with snow accumulations ranging from 3-6 inches across NW Iowa to 1-3 down in the southwestern counties of the state. Little if any snow accumulation will occur east of where the Winter Storm Watch is in effect. Warnings and or advisories are likely to be issued later on Thursday. Travel may become impacted beginning tomorrow night and lasting through the early morning hours of Saturday.
