Flooding Update

It’s been over two weeks since the peak of the Flooding in Iowa and flooding does continue on a few rivers in the state. The Iowa River in the eastern and southeastern part of the state continues to flood at this time. This is due to the constant flow out of the Coralville Reservoir north of Iowa City. The Army Corp of Engineers continues to let as much of the water out of the Coralville Res, as they can to allieviate upstream flooding in places like Marengo and Belle Plaine. This has cuased the river downstream to fall at a much slower pace than all the other rivers in the state.
The Iowa River at Marengo (Upstream from the Res) is expected to fall below Flood Stage on Thursday barring any rain that might extend that on Wednesday.
The Iowa River at Iowa City (Downstream from the Res) is expected to fall below Flood Stage on Saturday. This is based on several factors, the flow rate out of the reservoir being lowered and the chance of anymore rain in the river basin this week.
The Iowa River at Lone Tree (Downstream from Iowa City) is expected to fall below Flood Stage next Monday. This is based on the same factors as Iowa City.
On the other rivers in the state, The Mississippi River continues to flood from Muscatine on downstream. The Des Moines River also is flooding from Tracy downstream to the Mississippi River at Keokuk.
