As you can see on the chart, it has been a relatively dry October across not only the state of Iowa but across the upper midwest. Only Kansas City has had more than a quarter of an inch of rain this month of the sites shown here. Only Ames, Dubuque and Burlington have had more than a tenth of an inch of rain in Iowa this month. All locations are over an inch below the monthly average for rainfall for Mid-October. However, with the wet spring and summer, many locations are still well above the yearly averages. Examples include 18 inches ahead at Des Moines, Ottumwa, Burlington and Kirksville Missouri. Some rain will be possible later tonight into early tomorrow morning across the state. After that, the next chance of rain won’t come until next weekend.
