Trip to Georgia

I recently returned from a weekend trip (Saturday-Tuesday PM) to Atlanta Georgia to attend the NASCAR race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Leaving the Moline Airport Saturday morning, with jackets on and getting to Atlanta where the temperature was in the 80s was quite interesting. The dry air that had moved into the state of Iowa last weekend had made it to Atlanta. The entire time I was there, the dewpoints were quite low and there was significant fire danger. Temperatures were quite cool for early September in Atlanta, (at least the morning lows) with morning readings in the upper 50s or lower 60s depending on where you were. It did get up into the 80s to near 90 each day I was there, with Monday (Labor Day) being the warmest.
The main highlights of the trip, the number of Waffle House’s there are in a square mile in certain areas, and the amount of people crammed into them. A lot of empty buildings (most likely due to the economy) and the ease of getting around (although I got lost several times but was able to find things).

Coming back today wasn’t a piece of coffee (as one woman in an IHOP in Hapeville GA said last night), a cold front which had brought some strong to severe thunderstorms to Iowa last night was sweeping through Illinois as I flew back to Moline this afternoon. The flight was quite bumpy going through the bank of clouds SE of St Louis and the landing at Moline with winds gusting to 40mph was a thrill to say the least. I made it out, altogether with a sunburn that I’ll have for the next week or so. I would go back again when it isn’t hot and humid (which it wasn’t when I was there) or when it’s not getting smoggy (which it was when I left Tuesday)

I just wish the weather I had left on Saturday (windy and cool) wasn’t the same weather I came back to on Tuesday (windy and cool), but it could be a lot worse, (Hot, Humid and in the 90s) I guess.
