More Rain More Severe Weather

Getting a bit tired of all the rain and thunderstorms lately? You better get used to it, as there are chances of showers and thunderstorms for the next few days across the state. There is a slight risk of severe weather for this afternoon and tonight for most of the state once again. The main threat will likely be from damaging straight line winds, but large hail and an isolated tornado (especially in western Iowa) is not out of the question. Along with the severe weather threat, we can’t go without saying that the storms will also have the capability of producing torrential rain that will cause flash flooding across the area. Over 20 counties were under Flash Flood Warnings last night and this morning and that scenario could play out again this afternoon into the overnight hours. Rivers, especially in central into SE Iowa are experiencing flooding once again. This will likely continue the rest of the week and into the upcoming weekend. The heat and humidity will continue as well, with readings in the upper 80s to middle 90s statewide through the end of the week. Cooler drier weather is expected by early next week.
