After a warm and somewhat humid weekend, the beginning of the week will become active once more with rounds of showers and thunderstorms returning to the state. There is a slight risk of severe weather for the next two days across the state.
Monday’s risk covers most of the state except the far eastern counties and the southern tier. The main threats will be large hail and damaging winds with a tornado also possible. These storms will be forming ahead of a warm front that is expected to be over the western and southern portions of the state. Along with the severe weather threat, there is also a chance for some heavy rainfall as well, which may lead to flooding on area rivers that are still quite high, if not still over flood stage in many areas.
Tuesday’s risk for severe weather covers the southern 2/3rds of the state. This will be dependent on what occurs later today with any storm development and any boundaries that are left from the storms that are expected to move through. The main threats will likely be large hail and damaging winds once more. There will also be a chance again on Tuesday for heavy rain.
There will be drier weather moving in Wednesday and Thursday before another chance of showers and thunderstorms move back into the state for Friday into next weekend. Highs this week will be in the 80s to around 90, with lows in the 60s to lower 70s.
