The state is possibly heading into 3 consective days of severe weather. There are slight risks today, tomorrow and Friday for some parts of the state. Today’s risk covers all of Iowa west of an Osage to Muscatine line, Thursday’s risk covers the entire state as does Friday’s. The only concern is where the storms will fire on each afternoon. The severe weather will be dependent on what occurs the previous afternoon into the overnight. The storms this evening should develop in South Dakota and Nebraska and move ESE into the state north of the same stationary boundary that has been south of the state for the last few days. This front is expected to move back north as a warm front on Thursday, increasing the risk of showers and thunderstorms to the state at that time.
There is also a chance of heavy rain as well, which may lead to more flash flooding in areas that really don’t need anymore rain. Numerous rivers in southern Iowa remain at or above flood stage at this time. Anymore rain may prolong the current flooding of those rivers and may cause other rivers to go over their banks as well.
The weekend (at this point) looks to be dry and sunny before another batch of rain moves in early next week. More on that later.
