There is a slight risk of severe weather for the rest of this afternoon and tonight for the northern sections of Iowa extending westward into western Iowa. Although the storms will be quite isolated, any storms that do develop will have the capability to produce large hail and damaging straightline winds. The storms will likely dissipate after sunset with the end of daytime heating.
Saturday’s chances are a bit better and cover a larger area of the state. There is a slight risk for severe weather for most of the state north of US Hwy 34. The main threats on Saturday look to be large hail up to golf ball sized or larger, damaging straightline winds and possibly a tornado or two. Storm development on Saturday, will be more scattered than later on this afternoon and evening. Another outlook on Saturday’s risk will be out within the next hour.
