The latest outlook for Wednesday shows a slight risk of severe weather for the entire state of Iowa. The main risks will be large hail, damaging straight line winds and possibly tornadoes. A possible upgrade to moderate risk late tonight is possible when the new outlook comes out around 1am. The conditions for thunderstorms will be very potent, with high temperatures, high dewpoints (mainly in the mid to upper 70s) and upper level shear. CAPE values of 3000-5000 J/kg are possible in parts of the state. Typically only a CAPE value of 750-1000 J/kg is needed for any type of storms to become severe. Some models are showing even higher CAPE values at this time. A new post tonight (with a possible video) will discuss the severe weather possibilities at that time.
