All of Iowa, Severe Weather

Another Round of Severe Weather Friday

There is another round of severe weather possible again later this afternoon and tonight (Friday) across the eastern 3/4ths of the state. The Storm Prediction Center has outlooked a slight risk of severe weather in that area for this afternoon and tonight. The main risks will be the same as Thursday, large hail (possibly up to golf ball sized or larger), damaging winds (up to 70mph) and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out (especially in the afternoon into early evening). Numerous boundaries have been left from the storms that blew through the state early this morning, along with a cold front that is settling into the state, the atmosphere will be primed for more showers and thunderstorms to redevelop late this afternoon into this evening.

Along with the severe weather threat, heavy rain is another possibility, which may lead to some flash flooding in areas that have received a lot of rain over the last 1-2 week time period. There are a number of rivers that are still out of their banks in east central and southeast Iowa as well. Any heavy rain will likely cause these rivers to rise once more or lengthen the amount of time they are in flood.
