Afternoon Outlook

There is still a slight risk of severe weather for the rest of this afternoon and tonight for the southern half of the state, although it looks like the main severe weather event may occur just to the south where a tornado watch is now in effect. If any thunderstorms develop, large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats with an outside chance of a tornado possible. Heavy rain is also a concern as well. A flash flood watch remains in effect through late tonight in SE Iowa.

Currently at mid-afternoon, only a few widely scattered showers were occurring across the state. One batch was located in Winneabago and Hancock counties in northern Iowa, with another batch hugging the Iowa Missouri border in southern Wayne and Appanoose counties.
