Some light rain showers have been slowly moving northbound across the state. It has taken awhile as the air over the northern half of the state is rather dry with dewpoints in the 30s to lower 40s. Where it has been raining, temperatures have dropped into the mid-upper 50s. It was 55 at Centerville last hour while Algona in northern Iowa was in the mid 70s with a dewpoint in the upper 30s. The entire state will see light rain by the evening hours, with rainfall amounts being the heaviest in the southern half where more than a half inch of rain is possible before it ends on Friday.
This weekend will begin a possible long string of summer like temperatures with highs generally in the 80s and lows in the 50s to the lower 60s. It will also be noticablly more humid across the state as well, but it should remain dry. There is a slight chance of rain at mid-week and if we don’t get rain at that point, the rest of the month could be dry which could lead to some drought conditions in areas that haven’t received a lot of rain over the last few weeks (not the SE part of the state). We’ll have to keep an eye out for that as the heart of the growing season is well underway now.
