All of Iowa, Road Conditions, Winter Weather

Overnight Update

Earlier this afternoon the Blizzard Warning was expanded to the east and slightly south due to shifts in the projected track of the storm. Projected totals remain around the same as previously forecast. Northwest Iowa is expected to see 6-9″, with 9-14″ expected across north central Iowa and 10-16″ in the northeast. Further south, 4-8″ is expected across portions of west central Iowa. Most of the state is expected to see 20-30 MPH winds with gusts in the 40-45 MPH range. This will lead to considerable blowing and drifting of snow and reduced visibility on roads, hence the Blizzard Warning for much of the northern portion of the state. Blizzard warnings also remain in effect for portions of southern Minnesota, extreme southeast South Dakota, and extreme northeast Nebraska. A Winter Storm Warning is also in effect for east central Nebraska.

Road conditions have steadily deteriorated over the evening hours with most roads across northern and western Iowa reported as 100% snow covered. Additionally, officials in northwest Iowa have instituted tow bans in several counties.
