There is a slight risk for severe weather for today and tonight for the entire state of Iowa except the NW 1/4. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats with an isolated tornado not completely ruled out.

SCATTERED STG-SVR TSTMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS THIS AREA INVOF LARGE CYCLONE ALOFT…AS STEEP MID-UPPER LEVEL LAPSE RATES COLLOCATED WITH BROAD AREA OF LOW-LEVEL CONVERGENCE AND DIABATIC/DIURNAL DESTABILIZATION OF BOUNDARY LAYER. MAIN CONCERN WILL BE SVR HAIL…THOUGH POTENTIAL FOR DAMAGING GUSTS EXISTS. SVR POTENTIAL SHOULD WANE SIGNIFICANTLY AFTER SUNSET.

The main action will be across the south, where a widespread tornado outbreak is expected across Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky etc.
