Active Weather for the Weekend

Currently there are a few light showers across the southern part of the state mainly from near Corydon westward to Red Oak and Clarinda. These are moving to the east and will likely effect areas along and south of US Hwy 34 during the afternoon hours. A few more showers may pop up further north as well along a cold front that is expected to move in from the north. They will be widely scattered with a tenth of an inch the most anyone one locale will receive from any shower that may develop.

The storm this weekend is of a bigger concern. The morning QPF chart shows that widespread 1-2 inch rains are possible across the state over the weekend. Heavier totals will be possible in thunderstorms. The Storm Prediction Center has highlighted a Slight Risk of severe weather for Friday and Friday night for areas in Iowa south of a line from Sioux City to Burlington. Although the main threat for severe weather that day will be from Missouri south-southwestward into eastern Texas, Large Hail, damaging winds and possibly a tornado are not out of the question in southern and southwestern Iowa. More on this upcoming storm will be posted in the coming days.
