After the flooding events of the past two weeks, a break from thunderstorms was well needed, however thunderstorms are set to make a return late tonight and Thursday, and a few of the storms may be severe.
There are expected to be two rounds, one late tonight into the morning hours on Thursday, and another round later in the afternoon on Thursday.
The second round in the afternoon is where we will have to watch for possible severe weather.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed much of the south-west section of Iowa in a Enhanced risk (orange) for severe weather. There is also a Slight risk (Yellow) for much of the central Iowa.
The primary risks tomorrow would be from strong winds, but a few tornados (especially in the enhanced risk area) are possible.
Another risk to watch for is Heavy Rain
A 1/2 inch to an inch and 1/2 rainfall is likely for central and eastern Iowa, however it is possible for higher totals if a storm sits in one place for a long period of time.
After the storms move through expect much cooler weather for Friday, with high’s in the upper 50’s to low 60’s. 70’s will return early next week.
