BUILDING HEAT: The heat is on its way, however the eastern counties of the state will see a continued chance of some showers and storms through early this afternoon before they move to the east and the heat envelopes the rest of the state. Highs today will be in the middle and upper 80s across the eastern and northeastern counties to the middle and upper 90s across the west. Heat indices will be over 100 for most of the state outside the eastern counties where showers and storms will keep readings down for most of the day and thus heat indices will be lower as well. The entire state will see the heat Thursday and Friday with mainly sunny skies and highs in the middle to upper 90s. Some 100s are possible as well. Heat indices on Thursday and Friday will easily be over 105 and could approach or exceed 110 in some areas. Take precautions if you are going to be out for any length of time Today through Friday.

THIS WEEKEND: The GFS still shows a cold front coming into the state Saturday into Sunday with a chance of some showers and storms. Temperatures won’t be as hot, but the humidity levels will be high enough that heat indices may be close to 100 again. Highs in the 80s and 90s will be likely through the weekend with lows in the upper 60s to middle 70s.

NEXT WEEK: Cooler temperatures will return as we head into next week with skies staying partly to mostly sunny through Tuesday before the chances of showers and storms return late Tuesday night through Wednesday and possibly Thursday as well. Highs will be in the 80s to around 90 with lows in the 60s to around 70.

BEYOND: Looking beyond the middle of next week, there doesn’t look to be a whole lot going on across the area with only token chances of showers and storms around and readings mainly in the 80s and lower 90s. Whereas those readings are slightly above seasonal levels for the end of July into early August, it isn’t unheard of this time of year. No real consistency in the long term at this time. We’ll see if anything else brews in the coming days. Stay cool.
