Flash Flooding Ongoing Across the State this Morning

Flash flooding is ongoing across much of the state this morning. Doppler radar rainfall estimates currently show many areas 3″+ areas in north central Iowa and in southern Benton, southern Linn, and northern Johnson counties – with some areas nearing 5-6″ locally. This is a dangerous situation with continued rainfall across the area. Please heed all flash flood warnings when they are issued. The Weather Prediction Center continues to expect flash flooding to be likely.

  • Floyd Countyuntil 4:15 a.m.
    • 2-3″ already fallen; additional light rainfall ongoing.
  • Hancock, Winnebago, northeastern Kossuth, Worth, and Cerro Gordo countiesuntil 6:00 a.m.
    • 3-4″ already fallen with some additional light rainfall ongoing.
  • Butler, Grundy, Black Hawk, and Bremer countiesuntil 7:00 a.m.
    • 2″+ rainfall already fallen with heavy rainfall ongoing/expected to continue.
  • Johnson, Linn, northern Iowa, and Benton countiesuntil 7:30 a.m.
    • 5-6+” already fallen from Van Horne-to-Cedar Rapids-to-North Liberty; additional heavy rainfall ongoing and expected to continue for a while.
    • Water being reported over several roads in Cedar Rapids, potentially impassible
  • Tama Countyuntil 8:45 a.m.
    • 2-3″ already fallen; additional heavy rainfall ongoing and expected to continue

It is especially dangerous at night to recognize the dangers of flash flooding. Remember – turn around, don’t drown. Absolutely do not drive through flooded roads!!
