Get Out the Steamers!

STEAMED BROCCOLI: Summer will be in full force today through Saturday with temperatures climbing into the 80s and 90s across the state. Dew points will also be on the rise as well which will lead to heat indices at or above 100 in many areas. There will be plenty of sunshine around the state today but also a chance of a shower or storm mainly in our northern and northeastern counties of the state. We may also see some nocturnal activity across the same area tonight and Friday-Friday night as well. Timing this out is very tricky as we won’t know where it might rain until it has developed, the chance is there however. Make sure to take normal summertime precautions if you’re going to be outside for a long period of time.

A SUMMER SIDE SALAD: As we head into Sunday, the GFS continues to show a backdoor cold front moving through our northeastern counties with the chances of showers and storms increasing a bit in that area. It would also cool readings down to the upper 70s and lower 80s there. However where the front will be situated will mean a big difference in temperatures and even dew points in some areas of northern into eastern Iowa. Another system will be coming in from the west as we head into the first part of next week with more chances of showers and storms. The best chances of seeing any precipitation looks to be during the overnight hours (fairly typical of summer across the state) with the daylight hours staying relatively dry. This does not mean the chance of seeing any showers or storms during the daylight hours is zero, just that the chances are better at night. Readings look to cool at least a few degrees into the 80s across the state. Rainfall amounts will be hit and miss so determining amounts will be hard to forecast at this time (as is the case with a lot of summertime activity). We may need to watch toward the middle of the week for the chance of some stronger storms.

ANOTHER ORDER OF SUMMER: As we look toward the end of next week and beyond, it does look to dry out at the end of next week with readings looking to rebound back into the 80s for the most part after a slight cool down with a lot of cloudiness around. The rest of the period shows a quick moving west to east flow across the area with temperatures close to seasonal June readings and a few chances of precipitation. Nothing really to mention trend-wise.
