The Storm Prediction Center has issued a TORNADO Watch in effect until 10pm this evening for the following counties, Appanoose, Black Hawk, Clarke, Dallas, Davis, Decatur, Grundy, Jasper, Lucas, Madison, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Monroe, Polk, Poweshiek, Story, Tama, Wapello, Warren, Wayne, Benton, Buchanan, Cedar, Clinton, Delaware, Dubuque, Iowa, Jackson, Jefferson, Johnson, Jones, Keokuk, Linn, Van Buren and Washington.
Storms will begin to fire this afternoon along the dryline that is moving through the western part of the state and along the warm front that is currently situated just north of US Hwy 30. These storms will have the capability of producing large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes. The tornado threat will be highest near the triple point (where the cold front, dry line and warm front interect) as it moves east-northeastward through the rest of the PM hours.
