Elevated Risk of Severe Weather Wednesday

A relatively cool day in store across the area today with high temperatures ranging from the low 40s to mid 50s across the state. Clouds and precipitation are expected to clear out through this afternoon and lead to a quiet day generally. Early week ridging will bring temperatures into the 60s and 70s by Wednesday.

Active weather will return mid-week as a large upper-level trough pushes into the region. Models still are differing on a lot of solutions in regards to this system and several details have to be tweaked out. Nonetheless, both the American GFS and European ECMWF are inferring that thunderstorms will be possible. The European ECMWF is a bit slower than the American GFS, though the former has been more consistent with it’s thoughts as of late. The current expectation is that thunderstorms will begin developing in the mid-afternoon ahead of a dryline as it moves through. All-in-all, with modest instability and shear available, severe weather will be possible with all threats, including large hail, damaging winds, and an isolated tornado.
