What a beautiful Saturday we had today! Besides a bit of southerly winds, sunshine was plentiful and temperatures were warm enough to open windows and even be outside with shorts on. It felt like spring for sure and many even did spring yard activities consisting of raking and cleaning out flower beds. Lack of snowcover, now a statewide thing along a warm southerly breeze helped act to pushed temperatures way above the norm for this time of year. Putting highs anywhere from the upper 50s across the north and east to lower and mid 70s across the south and west. This is a good 30 degrees above the mid 30s to lower 40s normals. In fact a new daily record high was set today at Des Moines and Omaha. Warmth of this magnitude certainly doesn’t happen every year and I would even consider it be rare. Today’s high was 71.F at Des Moines which was the areas first 70 of the season. Last time it was this warm here was 26 years ago so enjoy the warmth while we have it!
