MISSING THE ACTION: A storm system will be just to our east bringing quite a bit of snow to Illinois, Indiana and Michigan and some severe weather across the Carolinas and SE part of the country. Around here, we’ll have a few clouds mainly in the eastern counties with that system bypassing us while the western counties will see more sunshine. Highs today will be in the middle 30s north to the middle 40s south. A weak disturbance rotating around the backside of the system to our east could bring a slight chance of light snow of flurries mainly in our western counties tonight into early on Thursday, but it doesn’t look to bring much of any accumulation. Skies will be partly to mostly sunny Thursday and Friday with highs in the 30s to around 40.
UP AND THEN DOWN: Heading into the weekend, temperatures look to shoot up on Saturday well into the 40s and 50s with breezy conditions out of the west. This will be ahead of a system that looks to come through on Sunday with a chance of rain and or snow. Sunday’s highs will be from the 30s north and northwest to near 50 southeast. Precipitation amounts this weekend look to be light at this time. Temperatures look to turn cooler into Leap Day (Monday) with another disturbance that may skirt our northeastern counties with a bit of light snow or flurries.
A LAMB LIKE LION: As we head into March, the first day of the month looks very lamb like with fairly quiet conditions (increasing clouds) and temperatures in the 30s and 40s, however the weather roars to life as we head into Tuesday and Wednesday of next week with a significant system that looks to impact the area at that time. We still have plenty of time to watch this system, but the current model run would suggest that we could see precipitation in the form of rain and or snow across the southwestern counties late Tuesday night and into the rest of the state next Wednesday, Thursday and early next Friday. As mentioned, this is a system we’ll clearly be looking at in the coming days.
MARCHING AHEAD: Looking further into the extended period, the GFS is showing the flow turning out of the northwest following the system at the end of next week. This along with any fresh snow pack (to be determined) could bring readings below seasonal levels for the early part of March. A lot of if’s at this time, but it does look cooler regardless. Temperatures are shown to moderate around the 8th with another system moving in through the 10th with possibly more cold air coming in beyond the end of the period. We’ll wait and see.
