A Bit O’ Snow, Temperatures stay Low

SWATHS OF SNOW: A few disturbances will be moving through the state today and again late Thursday night into Friday with some chance of light snow. These systems don’t look to put down a lot of snow (perhaps about an inch for each system) but they will cause some issues as they move through. It will remain cold through the rest of the week and into the weekend with another shot of colder air coming this weekend following the snow chance late Thursday into Friday. Highs today will be in the teens and 20s with the coldest temperatures in our northern and northeastern counties. Lows will be in the single digits and teens with some areas seeing temperatures dipping below zero especially tonight in our northern and northeastern counties and again Friday night and Saturday morning over a larger part of the state.

ANOTHER LOVELY SYSTEM: Another storm that looks a bit stronger than the other two looks to drop through the state on Sunday into early on Monday. This system looks to bring a better chance of seeing some light snow across the state. While it’s a bit early to denote possible snowfall accumulations with this system. It does look as of now to bring a bit more snow than the two systems later this week. We will continue to watch this system over the next couple of days as the time frame gets closer to the event.

NEXT WEEK AND BEYOND: As we head into next week the cold air looks to retreat to our northeast and temperatures will warm back into the 30s and perhaps even some 40s in our southern and southwestern counties. Another disturbance is seen on the GFS skirting our northeastern counties on Tuesday with a chance of some light snow there but it doesn’t look to be a big problem. Looking into the extended period on the GFS, the state looks to be in the battleground between the cold air and warm air and with that, several systems are seen on the model moving through the area with chances of precipitation each time. It also is showing another blast of bitter cold toward the end of the period as well. We have plenty of time to monitor this and all the other systems during this period but our confidence is not high enough to warrant a heightened look at this time.
