After Today, Just a February Freeze

BITTER COLD: After some warmer days this past weekend, it will not be the case this coming week with bitter cold temperatures returning to the state through the week and into the weekend as well. Before we get to that we have to discuss the system moving through the state today with a bit of light snow and strong gusty winds that will tend to blow the snow around and may lead to some blizzard conditions. Snowfall accumulations from this system however will be light with most places seeing around an inch or so but some isolated two inch amounts could be possible. Highs this week will mainly be in the teens and lower 20s with lows possibly getting back below zero once again especially in the northern and northeastern counties and in areas with a heavy snow pack on the ground.

LOVING WARMER WEATHER: Looking at Valentine’s Day Sunday, some warmer air looks to come into the state as winds turn out of the south and southwest. With a disturbance moving just to the northeast of the state (bringing snow to areas in Wisconsin) we should see readings well into the 30s depending on snow cover (or lack thereof in some areas). This is shown to last into the early part of the following week as well.

FORWARD: No real confidence looking at the extended period with a system shown around the 19th through the 21st with a chance of some precipitation at that time. Some colder air looks to follow in the wake of that system but nothing too bad at this time.
