5:00 AM: Snow, Freezing Rain, Sleet Overspreading the State

Precipitation is currently overspreading the state southeast of a line from Prairie Du Chien to Nebraska City at the five o’clock hour with precipitation ranging from snow for the vast majority, to sleet for Clinton, Davenport, Muscatine, Fairfield, and Bloomfield, to freezing rain for those in far southeast Iowa in Burlington, Keosauqua, Mount Pleasant, and associated communities. It’s another question, however, if this is the truth, as this is just our radar estimated precipitation-type. Nonetheless, the heaviest band of precipitation currently exists from Corydon to Hedrick, where heavy snow is likely falling.

Precipitation should continue to move through the state this morning and affect the area for the majority of the day. A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until late tonight. Please see this post for forecasting details. Road impacts are very likely and road closures sometime today or tonight would not surprise me. Roads are already partially covered with ice across southeastern Iowa with the southern part of Interstate 35 being completely covered with snow or ice.
