The morning convective outlooks are out and it looks to be a very active period over the state of Iowa through Tuesday.
Beginning today (Easter) there is a slight risk of severe weather for areas in Iowa southeast of a line from Muscatine to Bloomfield. The main threats will be large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado. Storms will be forming along a advancing warm front that will be moving into the state late this afternoon into tonight.
On Monday, there is a slight risk of severe weather for nearly the entire state of Iowa (except the extreme NW). All threats are likely on Monday, with large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes possible.
On Tuesday, there is a slight risk of severe weather for the southeastern 3/4ths of the state, mainly south of a Prairie Du Chein WI to Fort Dodge to Hamburg line. The main threats will be large hail and damaging winds with isolated tornado potential being closest to the surface low that is expected to track through Iowa in the afternoon and early evening hours.
It is of note that this coming week is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa so this would be a good time to prepare for any severe weather that will move through. Mother Nature doesn’t wait for you to be prepared. If you have a weather radio, make sure it is turned on over the next few days and stay tuned to the blog, local media etc for any possible watches and warnings that are likely to be issued.
