Mother Nature is giving us a taste of summertime weather on this April Fool’s Day. Readings typically seen in June are being felt statewide today, with temperatures well into the 80s. The warmest readings in the state at 3pm was 88° at Ankeny, Storm Lake, Perry, Carroll, Denison and Clarion. These readings combined with dewpoints in the upper 40s to mid 50s are producing heat indices for the first time this year. Those are running generally at or just slightly below the actual air temperature.
Enjoy this day, because temperatures may not be this warm for awhile as cooler readings will move into the state for Easter Weekend and into next week. Highs will drop into the 50s and 60s during the weekend, with next week seeing highs generally in the same range with maybe a 70 degree reading on Tuesday and Wednesday.
